Overview of the Program
The Back Cover Youth Creatives program offers immersive training for multicultural youth in media, empowering them to pursue careers in journalism, podcasting, social media, and videography. This program, backed by the Victorian Government, is committed to bridging the gap in media representation and providing participants with the tools they need to succeed.
Workshop Schedule
Journalism & Content Creation
Learn the fundamentals of journalism, including writing, interviewing, and researching. Build your own content while learning from experienced journalists. Facilitator: Mibengé Nsenduluka (Founder of Back Cover Media) with guest speakers Uncle Charles Pakana (Victorian Aboriginal News) and Billy Freeman (Formerly The Daily Telegraph and The Sydney Morning Herald) Dates: July 11 & July 25, 2025
Videography and Podcasting
Learn how to create compelling podcasts and develop the technical skills of videography. Master the art of storytelling through sound and visuals.
Facilitator: Mibengé Nsenduluka with guest speakers Fred McHenry (Founder, SuperPlume Productions) and Arjun Raju (Founder, Orange Hawk Media)
Dates: August 8 & August 22, 2025
Mentorship & Industry Exposure
There will be a dedicated mentorship session on September 5, 2025, where participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with an industry professional for personalised guidance and advice. Throughout the rest of the program, participants will attend presentations from industry professionals. They will have the chance to ask questions and gain practical knowledge and training, helping them develop the skills they need to succeed in the media industry. Date: September 5, 2025
Content Creation
In this hands-on workshop, participants will dive into the world of content creation, developing their skills to create and publish high-quality content across multiple platforms. Whether it’s blog posts, podcasts, or videos, this session will provide the tools and techniques needed to effectively engage audiences.
Key activities include:
- Crafting and publishing blog posts, podcasts, and videos tailored to specific topics and audiences.
- Receiving ongoing feedback from experienced facilitators and mentors, helping participants refine and enhance their work for greater impact.
- Building confidence in producing content that resonates with diverse audiences.
Date: September 19, 2025
Project Evaluation & Reporting + Final Project Wrap-up
The final workshop will focus on evaluating the progress and outcomes of the participants’ work, offering them valuable insights to help shape future projects. This session is all about reflection, growth, and celebration.
Key activities include:
- Conducting performance evaluations and gathering feedback through surveys to assess each participant’s growth and achievements.
- Preparing and presenting final project reports that highlight key learnings and outcomes.
- Participating in a showcase event, followed by networking opportunities and a final celebration to acknowledge participants’ hard work and dedication throughout the program.
This wrap-up session offers a chance to reflect on the journey, share success stories, and celebrate the accomplishments of all participants.

Who can apply for the program?
The Back Cover Youth Creatives Training Hub is open to all Victorians, but priority will be given to multicultural participants aged 18–25 who are passionate about media, storytelling, and digital content creation. We strongly encourage applications from people from diverse cultural backgrounds, including those who may have limited access to media training opportunities.
Is there a cost to participate?
No. The program is completely free for all participants, thanks to support from the Victorian Government.
Do I need any media experience to apply?
No prior experience is necessary—just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn! The workshops cater to both beginners and those looking to build on existing skills.
What will I learn in the workshops?
You’ll gain hands-on training in areas such as journalism, podcasting, videography, social media content creation, storytelling, and digital media strategy. You’ll also have access to mentorship and real-world project opportunities.
Can I attend just one workshop, or do I need to commit to all of them?
We recommend attending the full program to get the most benefit, but we understand some participants may have other commitments. Just let us know in your application.
