The Back Cover Youth Creatives program offers immersive training for multicultural youth in media, empowering them to pursue careers in journalism, podcasting, social media, and videography. This program, backed by the Victorian Government, is committed to bridging the gap in media representation and providing participants with the tools they need to succeed.

Workshop Schedule

Journalism & Content Creation

Learn the fundamentals of journalism, including writing, interviewing, and researching. Build your own content while learning from experienced journalists. Facilitator: Mibengé Nsenduluka (Founder of Back Cover Media) with guest speakers Uncle Charles Pakana (Victorian Aboriginal News) and Billy Freeman (Formerly The Daily Telegraph and The Sydney Morning Herald) Dates: July 11 & July 25, 2025


Videography and Podcasting

 Learn how to create compelling podcasts and develop the technical skills of videography. Master the art of storytelling through sound and visuals.

Social Media & Marketing

Understand how to leverage social media for content creation and personal branding. Learn marketing strategies that drive engagement. Facilitator: Arjun Raju (Founder of Orange Hawk Media)

Mentorship & Industry Exposure

There will be a dedicated mentorship session on September 5, 2025, where participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with an industry professional for personalized guidance and advice. Throughout the rest of the program, participants will attend presentations from industry professionals. They will have the chance to ask questions and gain practical knowledge and training, helping them develop the skills they need to succeed in the media industry.

Where do the training workshops take place?

The workshops are held in and around Melbourne. Regional participants are strongly encouraged to apply—transport and accommodation support may be available if needed. Get in touch to learn more.

What kind of support is available for regional or interstate applicants?

We offer limited support for transport and accommodation to ensure regional participants can attend workshops in Melbourne. Contact us to learn more.

Who can apply for the program?

 The program is primarily aimed at multicultural youth aged 18–25 who are passionate about media, storytelling, and digital content creation. However, the program is open to all Victorians, with a focus on supporting those in this age group. 

Is there a cost to participate?

No. The program is completely free for all participants, thanks to support from the Victorian Government.

Do I need any media experience to apply?

No prior experience is necessary—just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn! The workshops cater to both beginners and those looking to build on existing skills. 

What will I learn in the workshops?

You'll gain hands-on training in areas such as podcasting, videography, social media content creation, storytelling, and digital media strategy. You'll also have access to mentorship and real-world project opportunities. 

Can I attend just one workshop, or do I need to commit to all of them?

We recommend attending the full program to get the most benefit, but we understand some may have other commitments. Just let us know in your application.

The sessions are led by experienced journalists, media professionals, and creatives from diverse backgrounds, including industry-recognised names.
